And They're Off...!

After a fairly uneventful morning and a bit of a delay at Kennedy airport, the Bridge Puerto Rico group (and fellow members of Bridge Caribbean traveling to St. Vincent via San Juan) boarded the plane and took off for Puerto Rico! As I write this update, the group is 37,000 feet up and traveling 503 mph. They have about two hours left in their flight and then will be in sunny San Juan (currently 87 degrees there).

After arriving, the group will meet up with co-leader Tony who arrived in Puerto Rico this past Friday. Then the group is headed to the Oceana Beach Inn where they will spend tonight and tomorrow night. The next few days has the group keeping busy with group bonding activities, exploring San Juan, taking a ferry to Vieques (an island 6 miles off the coast of Puerto Rico proper), and kayaking in the bioluminescent bay. What a great way to kick off the trip!

Phone Call Schedule and Mail Stop Information

The Bridge Puerto Rico campers will be calling home on these dates and times (Eastern Standard Time). Please make sure you are available to receive the calls - we don't want you to miss the chance to hear from them! Call times cannot be rescheduled.

July 1 between 7 and 8 pm (quick call after arriving)
July 11 between 1 and 4 pm
July 19 between 1 and 4 pm
July 25 between 1 and 4 pm (quick call before departing)

The last day for mail pickup will be July 16, please make sure your mail will arrive before then to ensure delivery. Families may send flat letters to the program participants. Place student's name in the bottom right corner of the envelope. Please do not send packages or money.

Meet Your Leaders

Tony Marsella, New Hampshire

This is Tony’s fourth year with Windsor Mountain International. After a year at base camp in New Hampshire, and two more co-leading the New England Adventure program, he is psyched to be co-leading the 2009 Bridge Puerto Rico trip with Cat “Dog” Lamb. Tony is a recent graduate of the University of New Hampshire. He has spent the last year roaming and working everywhere from Cape Cod to Colorado to Costa Rica. Now he is looking forward to an awesome trip to Puerto Rico!

Cat Lamb, Australia

Cat comes to us from Melbourne, Australia, and is returning for her fourth summer at Windsor Mountain (her third with the WM Travel Program). Since completing her Outdoor Education degree in 2004, Cat has been working as a freelance outdoor educator. This means she gets to spend the majority of her time working with teenagers in the outdoors, climbing, biking, skiing, canoeing, and camping. She’s also done a whole lot of traveling – working on a cruise ship, teaching skiing in Australia and Vermont, and more. Cat loves to travel the world with students, searching for adventure. She is especially excited to co-lead just such an adventure this summer – Puerto Rico, here we come!
